“A Future Written for Us but Without Us” | Katerina Manoli | TEDxUniversityofGlasgowSalon

   TEDx Talks
   Published: 1 week ago

The majority of dystopian scenarios about overly developed Artificial Intelligence gravitate towards the Singularity: the point when AI will advance enough to surpass human intelligence. This is believed by some to be the end of the human era, followed by an inevitable "rise of the robots". However, the rise of the robots need not be preceded by sci-fi scenarios of superintelligent machines. This talk explores the not so far-fetched possibility of advanced AI creating a dystopia, without necessarily reaching human-like consciousness. Katerina Manoli is a 4th year Philosophy Student at the University of Glasgow. She spent her summer researching Artificial Intelligence ethics and safety at Donders institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at Show more
